The tiny county Kerry village of Duagh is situated 6 miles south east of Listowel and 5 miles north west of Abbeyfeale. A special race meeting was organised on Friday 27th September 1844 by Oliver Fitzmaurice of Duagh House. The chosen 2 mile course was over sporting country by the banks of the River Feale, and the main race was the Duagh Sweepstake. After a keenly fought contest it was Mr Elliott’s black gelding which prevailed at the expense of Mr O’Keeffe’s Corunna. There are no further records of racing in the vicinity of the village.
